Donald Wesley Meyer's Obituary
Donald Wesley Meyer, age 70, of Centerville, Iowa, died Thursday, May 6, 2004, at Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, Iowa. He was born the son of Theodore and Leta (Donaldson) Meyer on October 17, 1933 in Washington, Iowa. Donald graduated from Washington High School in 1951. He then attended Iowa State University for two years. Donald served his country in the U.S. Army where he served in Germany during the Cold War in Intelligence as a Cryptographer from 1954 until his Honorable Discharge in 1962. He later attended the University of Iowa at Iowa City and received a B.S. in Business Administration.On September 12, 1959, Donald was united in marriage to Margaret Weston in Kellogg, Iowa. He had worked first at Bankers Life Insurance Company in Des Moines, Iowa, then Rockwell International in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and finally working as Accounting Manager for over 32 years at Iowa Southern Utilities, which later became Alliant Energy, until his retirement.Donald embraced everything that was fun and good in life. He enjoyed mountain climbing trips in Colorado, trips to Door County, Wisconsin and tours of Wine Country in Missouri. He loved Iowa basketball and football games, dinner parties and good times with friends. (No one loved a good story more - some of you may recall a dead cat story that nearly broke up a dinner party.) He enjoyed gardening, his farms, and his cattle. He especially loved family gatherings and his children and grandchildren.He is survived by: his wife, Margaret Meyer of Centerville, Iowa; and three children, Cindy Cowan, and her husband Greg of Centerville, Iowa, Rob Meyer and his wife Shawna of Des Moines, Iowa and Allison Haas and her husband Hap of Atlanta, Georgia; five grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and brother, Dean Meyer, of San Diego, California.He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, David Meyer.Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 10, 2004 at 10:30 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Centerville, Iowa with The Reverend Dr. Beverly Leonard officiating. Burial will be at the Mt. Ararat Cemetery, east of Centerville, following the service. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 9, 2004 from 1 PM til 8 PM at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa.
