Donald McGhee's Obituary
Donald McGhee, 80, of Corydon passed away passed away Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Don was born to Melvin & Mildred (Haff) McGhee on January 3, 1936 in Corydon. Don was a Veteran of the United States Army Corps. He served as a cook while in the service and was complimented by President Eisenhower on his cooking. Don was employed by the City of Corydon for 28 years and retired as the City Street Commissioner. He was a member and past commander of the Russell E. Marshall Post, No. 68 in Corydon and a member of the Corydon Masonic Lodge. Don was an outdoorsman who enjoyed coyote hunting and golfing. He also enjoyed playing 4 point pitch and cooking, he made the best Biscuits and Gravy. Survivors include his wife Melva of Corydon, children: Calvin McGhee (Linda) of Corydon, Doug McGhee (Debra) of Clive and a granddaughter, Alyssa Pulse of Chariton. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Gary McGhee, sisters: Willa Mae Derby and Sharon McGhee. Graveside service with full military rites performed by Russell E. Marshall Post, No. 68 will be 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Corydon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon.
