Donald Martin's Obituary
Donald Martin, age 96 of Centerville, Iowa died Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center, Centerville.
He was born September 11, 1916 in Centerille, Iowa the son of Samuel and Effie (True) Martin. Donald received his education in the Centerville schools and graduated from Centerville High School. After high school Donald enlisted in the United States Army on December 27th 1949. After serving his country faithfully for three years he was honorably discharged in 1952. Donald served as a member of the Appanoose County Draft Board from 1969 through 1974 and received a special citation from President Ford. Donald worked for Iowa Southern Utilities in the Accounting department and served as the accounting manager for many years before retiring in 1983. He enjoyed gardening and golfing, winning the Centerville City Championship a few times at the Appanoose County Country Club. Donald was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was known as a very kind and gentle person.
Donald is survived by his wife Jennie (Cortesio) Martin of Centerville; his daughter Judy (Rodney) Kaster of Albia Iowa; 2 Grandchildren Jared (Julie) Kaster , Travis (Amy) Kaster of Albia Iowa; 5 Great Grandchildren Paige Kidney, Olivia Kaster, Avery Kaster, Josiah Kaster and Kael Kaster all of Albia Iowa.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Effie (True) Martin; and 2 sisters, Mary Wilson and Louise Moll.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM, Monday, December 17, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville with Father Bill Hubmann officiating. Burial will follow in the Haines Cemetery north of Centervillle. A visitation will be held on Monday at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory from 9-10 AM. Memorials have been established to the Donald Martin Memorial Fund and may be given to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.
