Donald Robert Klampe's Obituary
Donald Robert Klampe, age 85 of Moravia, Iowa, passed away Wednesday morning, November 6, 2013 at Oakwood Nursing and Rehab Center in Albia, Iowa.
He was born August 18, 1928 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin to Chester and Violet (Hedges) Klampe. As a boy he lived in Wisconsin, Michigan and Oregon. Donald married Rachel Kilburn of Tracy, Iowa and to this union were born three sons, Roderick, Robert, and James.
On April 24, 1965 he married Nancy Faber Russell of Moravia. Donald was a cab driver in Oskaloosa, Iowa before being employed for nineteen years at Chamberlain Manufacturing in Albia, Iowa. He also did assembling for Pamida in Albia. Before his retirement, he worked as a part-time custodian at Moravia Community Schools for six years.
Donald was a member of the Lighthouse Church of the Nazarene in Moravia where he served as an usher for several years.
In 2003 Don and Nancy moved to Mt. Carmel Christian School Campus, Vancleve, Kentucky where they made many new friends before moving to Keokuk, Iowa in 2006. They moved back home to Moravia in November of 2012.
Don loved being outdoors, especially gardening, fishing, hunting, and riding his motorcycle. He loved his family. His grandchildren, nieces and nephews were very special to him.
He is survived by his wife Nancy; sons, Roderick and Robert of Moravia, James (Monica) of Jackson, Kentucky; and a step daughter, Susan (Ron) Welch of Moravia; fifteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a brother James (Barbara) Klampe of Keokuk, Iowa; sisters Dawn (Mody) Bass of Kamiah, Idaho and Nancy Kelly of Keokuk, Iowa; brother-in-law Bob (Rose) Faber and sister-in-law Norma Martin both of Moravia, Iowa.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; grandson Travis Welch; daughter-in-law Debbie Klampe; brother-in-laws John Kelly and Butch Martin; and sister-in-law Nadine Squires.
Don loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was looking forward to going home to heaven. He will be sadly missed by his family and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM, Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia, Iowa with Pastor Terry Chapman officiating. Soloists for the service will be granddaughter Cassandra Finley, son-in-law Ron Welch and friends Rose Mary and Larry Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be grandsons, Aaron Klampe, Roderick Klampe Jr., Shakiel Klampe, Zackary Klampe, Tyrel Welch, Dan Flugum and Freddy Finley. A visitation will be held all day Friday at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia with the family present from 6-8 PM. Memorials have been established to either Monroe County Hospice or the Don Klampe Memorial Fund and may be given to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
