Donald L. Jackson's Obituary
Don Jackson passed away peacefully at Wayne County Hospital on Tuesday, December 27, 2022.
Don was born on April 7, 1948, as the second child to loving parents, Cleo and Millie (Davidson) Jackson. He was followed by siblings Dwayne (Terry) Jackson and Mary (Max) Tuttle. He grew up as a proud Cambria boy, residing on the family farm just north of Cambria.
Don graduated high school from Corydon in 1966 and from AIB in 1968. He married Janet Henderson in 1968, and to this union was born his 3 daughters, Angie (Mike) Jensen, Sheila (Mike) Craig, and Pam (Jared) Chambers. Don joined the Air Force for a brief time in the late 60's, until he was called home to help on his parent's farm after his dad suffered a heart attack. Upon his return to Iowa, they bought a farm west of Promise City, where they raised the girls and he worked hard raising pigs, cows, and crops for many years.
Don married Maggie in 1987, and he gained 3 bonus children, Jody (Mike) Barrett, Mark Lee, and Mike (Julie) Lee. Don retired from farming in the early 90's, and began working at Lockridges in Promise City, where he remained until his retirement. Don and Maggie continued living on the farm until they moved full time to Lake Thunderhead in 2017.
Don had a great zest for life! He was always quite a character, and made sure those in his presence were laughing and having fun, typically with a cold beer in hand! His greatest joy was spending time with his kids and grandkids. He also loved fishing, hunting, gambling, boating, and hanging out with his numerous friends. He loved life at Lake Thunderhead, and passed that love on to his kids and grandkids as well. He and Maggie enjoyed spending their winters in Texas for the past several years, and loved being snow birds.
Don's shenanigans will be remembered with love by all who knew him!
Surviving family include his wife Maggie, 6 children, 18 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren, as well as his brother and sister. Preceding Don in death were his toddler brother, Larry Lee, and his parents.
Visitation will be Monday, January 2, 2023 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM with family present 4:00PM to 6:00 PM. Memorials may be made to Maggie Jackson to be determined at a later date and condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com or facebook.com/thomasfuneralhome.
