Dixie Jo Gorman's Obituary
Dixie Jo Gorman, age 82, of Centerville, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.
Dixie was born on November 17, 1937 in Mystic, Iowa, the daughter of John Robert Brown and Edith Bell (Hunt) Brown. On April 16, 1955, she was united in marriage to Louis Gene Gorman at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Mystic. To this union, four children were born, Rita, Cindy, Brenda and Kim.
Dixie enjoyed playing cards, Bingo, shopping, quilting, crafts, and collecting angels. She loved her family, and always welcomed everyone into her home. She was a long-time member of the St. Marys Catholic Church in Centerville. Dixie was also a member of the Mystic American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Highland Cemetery Association, and the Mystic Booster Club. She was also a die-hard Cubs fan.
Left to cherish Dixies memory are her husband of 65 years, Louis Gorman of Centerville, Iowa; her children, Rita (John Ballanger) Slavin of Coatsville, Missouri, Cindy Gorman of Centerville, Iowa, Brenda (Gary) Robertson of Plano, Iowa, and Kim (Brad) Moore of Udell, Iowa; twelve grandchildren, Daniel (Amanda) Milburn, Hunter Moore, Kalie Hutt, Tanya Moore, Rodney (Megan) Robertson, Hollie (Jake) Steele, Taija (Dallas) Wahl, Leelynn (Joe) Leer, Chad Slavin, Joshua (Molly) Ballanger, Jeremiah Ballanger, and Jed Ballanger; twenty great grandchildren, Ryder, Ruger, Emsley, Teagan, Corina, Nolan, Taylor, Mackenzie, Cole, Morgan, Addison, Bryer, Lane, Tanzi, Kadarenna, Katlynn, Kendra, Kasen, Jaxson and Rowyan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dixie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Edith Brown; four siblings, Doris (Lewis) Radosevich, Bill Moorman, Mavis (John) Weston, and Judy (Donnie) Lewis; as well as several other family members.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, August 10, 2020 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Father Timothy Armbruster officiating. Burial will follow the service at Haines Cemetery, north of Centerville. Visitation will take place Monday, August 10, 2020 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 9:00AM-11:00AM. Memorials have been established to the Haines Cemetery Association, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home, C/O Gorman family, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544. Condolences may be shared online at www.langefh.com. Due to the Covid-19 guidelines, we ask that you practice social distancing as much as possible for the visitation and the funeral. Masks are not required but may be worn while attending the services.
