Dixie Darlene Cairns, age 78, of Centerville, Iowa, died Thursday, October 2, 2008 at Centerville Nursing & Rehab in Centerville. She was born the daughter of Richard H. and Martha Francis 'Fannie' (Richmond) Betson on September 25, 1930 in Mystic, Iowa. She graduated from the Mystic Community Schools.In November of 1947, Dixie was united in marriage to James Cairns in Mystic, Iowa. She has worked as a bookkeeper for over 35 years for HyVee in Centerville, Iowa. She is a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Centerville.She is preceded in death by: her parents; son, Terry Cairns in 1993; daughter, Suzanna Cairns in 1949; and a brother, Bill Betson in 1997.Dixie is survived by: her husband, James Cairns of Centerville, Iowa; son, Rich Cairns of Centerville, Iowa; grandchildren, Dakota Cairns of Centerville, Iowa, Heather Watsbaugh of Humeston, Iowa and TJ Cairns and Mitchell Cairns both of Centerville, Iowa; four great grandchildren; one brother, Toby Betson of Monroe, Iowa.Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at 2:30 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Kathryn Franzenburg officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 6, 2008 from 1 pm till 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville and the family will be present from 6 pm till 8 pm.Memorials can be made to either, Hospice of Central Iowa or Activity Fund at the Centerville Nursing & Rehab and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
