DeWayne ScCartney's Obituary
DeWayne McCartney, age 88, of Moulton, Iowa, died Saturday, August 9, 2008 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield, Iowa. He was born the son of Dola David and Sussie (Coats) McCartney on April 3, 1920 in Marriman, Nebraska. He received his education in the Valentine Community Schools in Valentine, South Dakota.On September 29, 1942, DeWayne was united in marriage to Vernie Valee Whithworth in Worthington, Missouri; the couple was married over 66 years. DeWayne served his country during WWII in the United States Army. He later would work at the Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, Illinois in the Warehouse. He was a member of the Burl McClure American Legion Post in Moulton, Iowa for many years.He was preceded in death by: his parents; a granddaughter, Sherri Rena Wilson and a brother, Lindell McCartney.DeWayne is survived by: his wife, Vernie Valee McCartney of Bloomfield, Iowa; daughter, Eloda Graham and her husband, Arthur 'Little Boy' of Moulton, Iowa; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at 10 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Moulton, Iowa with Rev. Reg Higginbottom officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at the Bethel Cemetery south of Glenwood, Missouri. Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 from 1 pm till 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Moulton, Iowa.Memorials can be made to the American Legion in Moulton and can be left at or mailed to the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville.
