Dennis R. Schwering's Obituary
Dennis Schwering, age 54 of Centerville, Iowa passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at home with his loving family by his side.
Dennis was born in Boone, Iowa on January 17, 1961, the son of Kenneth William and Rose Marie (Doyle) Schwering. He graduated from Putnam County High School in Unionville, Missouri in 1979. Dennis was united in marriage to Dawn Saldana on March 3, 1984 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville.
Following high school Dennis was employed with Young Radiator in Centerville. He worked as a machinist with the company for several years until its closing. He then became employed with the Centerville Post Office. Dennis' career with the postal service spanned twenty eight years. He held numerous positions, beginning as a temp employee. Dennis later carried mail, a position he held for several years. He eventually transitioned to an office clerk at the Centerville Post Office, which he maintained for the last ten years.
Dennis also worked at Adam's Bowl in Centerville periodically throughout his lifetime. He eventually became co-owner from 2004-Present.
He maintained an active membership at the Eagles in Centerville since 2009. Moreover, Dennis was currently the President of the Eagles (2012-Present). He was also a dedicated member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville. Dennis rarely missed weekly mass and in fact, he often participated in the weekly church services as a server.
Dennis was also a longtime, devoted member of the Knights of Columbus. Through years of hard work and dedication, Dennis had achieved fourth degree knighthood with the Knights of Columbus.
He was very dedicated to having Sunday dinner with whole family, which started over forty years ago with his parents. Dennis also enjoyed bowling, fishing, grilling his famous blackened chicken, horseshoes, playing cards and playing bean bags (cornhole).
He is survived by his wife, Dawn Schwering of Centerville, Iowa; his mother, Rose Schwering of Centerville, Iowa; four children, Shaun (Elizabeth) Saldana of Centerville, Iowa, Derek Schwering of Centerville, Iowa, Jessy Schwering of Centerville, Iowa and Alicia Schwering of Centerville, Iowa; six grandchildren, Karrah, Tesla and Kionna Saldana, Johanna, Chloe' and Jayden Schwering; a sister, Gail Schwering-Woollums of Centerville, Iowa; four brothers, Dale (Cindy) Schwering of Centerville, Iowa, Scott Schwering of Centerville, Iowa, Wes (Mary) Schwering of Decatur, Illinois and Robert (Lora) Schwering of Centerville, Iowa; an aunt, Rita Bianchi of Fort Dodge, Iowa; three uncles, Gilbert (Peggy) Schwering of Stratford, Iowa, Tom (Ann) Schwering of Versailles, Missouri and Bernard Schwering of Farnhamville, Iowa; an honorary child, Lora (Lovett) Hyde and her children, Austin Langloss, Cole and Jared Hyde of Centerville, Iowa; an honorary brother, Larry (Michelle) Pettengill of Livonia, Missouri; extended family, Pam (Chuck) Grimm of Centerville, Iowa, Tami, Randy, Kathy and Marissa Hunt all of Centerville, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dennis also had many kids that came into his life that called him grandpa or papa. He treated all of them like his own grandchildren.
Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Ken Schwering; grandparents, John and Catherine Schwering; a brother, John Schwering; a niece, Amber Lursen; a nephew, Logan Schwering; a cousin, Todd Schwering; a brother-in-law, Jack Woollums; and many aunts and uncles.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM, Monday, February 9, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville with Father Bill Hubmann officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery, Centerville. A visitation will be held on Sunday at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville from 12-8 PM, with the family greeting friends from 5-8 PM, Sunday evening. A Rosary will be conducted at 7 PM on Sunday, along with a Knights of Columbus Service in honor of Dennis. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been designated to the family of Dennis Schwering and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
