Dennis Criswell's Obituary
Dennis Criswell, 71, of Corydon, passed away on July 1, 2019 at Chariton Specialty Care after a brief illness. Dennis was born on May 25, 1948 in Grinnell, Iowa to Leonard "Howard" and Ruth (Wenger) Criswell. After graduating from Centerville High School in 1967, Dennis enrolled in the United States Navy where he served on the USS Ticonderoga. Upon discharge, Dennis married Charlotte Roe and to this union, one son was born. The pair remained married until Charlotte's passing in 1998. On February 14, 2009 he married Kimberly Sharp. In 1972, the Criswell family moved to Corydon and Dennis immediately started his career with the police force. After several years, he was promoted to Chief of Police where he remained until his retirement from the department in 2000. When not working at the police station, Dennis could be seen around town driving the local school bus. He enjoyed doing this until 2002 when he became a security guard at Lakeside Casino in Osceola. In his spare time, he enjoyed: walking his dog, Molly, watching television, serving as an assistant scoutmaster for the Corydon Boy Scout troop and spending time with his family. Dennis is survived by his wife, Kim; son, Chad (Tracy) Criswell; grandchildren: Alexandra, Charlotte, Noah and Arthur Criswell; sister, Sherry (John) Farrington; mother-in-law, Sarah Sharp and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Charlotte and her parents: Ernest and Marcia Roe; infant grandson, Jacob Criswell and father-in-law, Kermit Sharp. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 5, 2019 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. Interment will immediately follow at Corydon Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 9:30-11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Corydon First Responders, c/o Wayne County Hospital, 417 S. East St., Corydon, Iowa 50060.
