Deloris Foster's Obituary
Deloris (Terry) Foster, 94, a lifelong resident of Appanoose County, passed away on February 1, 2013 at The Continental at St. Joseph's in Centerville. She was the daughter of the late Irmel and Maggie (Baughman) Terry. Deloris was born on January 20, 1919. She graduated from Exline High School with the class of 1936, after having been a member of the women's basketball team, for which she played every position. After graduating, she became a teacher and taught at Zoar, Wilson and Numa schools. On April 27, 1939, she married Delbert Foster, in Lancaster, MO. Deloris and Delbert farmed near Centerville, where Deloris tended to her garden. In 1963, she became the administrative assistant to Lonnie Edmund Johnson, superintendent of schools for Appanoose County. Deloris also worked several years at the Appanoose Country Court House in Centerville, from where she retired. Both before and after her retirement, Deloris was very active in the local community, her church and numerous clubs that she belonged to. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her sons, Gerald and Dennis, making visits to each of them, in later years, at their homes in Arizona and Massachusetts, respectively. Some of Deloris's interest included reading, cooking, sewing, gardening, traveling, current events, and most important, visiting with her friends and family. She treasured the time she spent with her sisters, Esther and June. Deloris was a regular visitor to and proponent of the Exline community, especially the Exline Old Country Store. In 2006, she was named the grand champion of the annual Exline pie-baking contest, for her submission of a chocolate pie. Deloris loved life and lived life to the fullest. Deloris is survived by her son, Dennis, and daughter-in-law, Marie, of Topsfield, MA; daughter-in-law, Peggy Konecny, of Prescott, AZ; her sister, Esther (Terry) McDanel, of Centerville; her sister, June (Terry) Gallo, and her husband, Nick, of Centerville; sister-in-law, Darlene Exline, of Rockford, IL; sister-in-law, Margaret Foster, Exline; granddaughter, Jessica, and her husband Jared Correia, of Gloucester, MA; grandson, Jason, and his wife Rachel (Kelderman) Foster, of Auckland, New Zealand; granddaughter, Sarah Foster, of Topsfield, MA; great-grandsons, Joseph Correia, Jackson Foster, nieces and nephews. Deloris was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert, and her son, Gerald. Visiting hours will be held on February 6, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville. A funeral mass will be held on February 7, 2013 at 10:30 am at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Jeremy McElvain in Centerville, with a graveside service to follow at the Exline Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Exline Betterment Committee.
