Deborah Carol Gaither's Obituary
Deborah Carol (Van Dorin) Gaither, age 67, of Moravia, Iowa passed away Sunday, April 16, 2017 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
Deborah was born on October 7, 1949 in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Wm. Sylvan and Carolyn (Walter) Van Dorin. She graduated Moravia High School with the class of 1968. She became an LPN in 1970, and earned her Registered Nurse degree from Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa in 1975. She worked as a nurse in Ottumwa, Iowa, Kirksville, Missouri and Kansas City, Missouri for more than 40 years.
Deborah was united in marriage to John Gaither on April 30, 1983 in Nevada, Missouri. Before her husband John passed away, the couple enjoyed traveling. They shared a passion for trains, and were members of the Toy Train Collector's Club in Kansas City, Missouri.
Deborah was a very active member of the Grace United Methodist Church, an active volunteer with the Moravia Fall Festival, and a member of the Moravia Historical Society. She served as the Treasurer for Senior Meals in Moravia for a period of time. She enjoyed quilting and collecting recipes in her spare time.
Deborah is survived by her sisters, Marie (Denny) Baughman of Unionville, Missouri, and Annette (Patrick) Mullins of Skidmore, Missouri; two aunts, Berniece Hinton of Moravia, and Annabelle Wilson of Paducah, Kentucky; an uncle, Marvin Gardner of Moravia; three nieces, Megan (Darin) Lunsford of Green City, Missouri, Erin Mullins of Ravenwood, Missouri, and Rachel Mullins of Maryville, Missouri; and two great-nephews, Brody Lunsford and Kasey Lunsford, both of Green City, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvan and Carolyn Van Dorin; and her husband, John Gaither on February 23, 2001.
Funeral services will take place at 11 AM, Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Moravia with Pastor Cindy Finn officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia. A visitation will be held from 9-11AM on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Moravia.
