Dean Wayne Lain's Obituary
Dean Wayne Lain passed away May 13, 2026 at the Wayne County Hospital at the age of 90, surrounded by family.
Dean was born March 10, 1936 to George and Leola (Wright) Lain in Centerville, Iowa. He graduated from Centerville High School in 1954, where one of his favorite memories was running in the finals of the Drake Relays. On June 15, 1958, he married Reva Irene Darrah and they were married for 67 years. To this union, 3 children were born, Terry, Gary and Lisa.
They began their married life on a farm north of Plano, where Dean milked, raised sheep, cattle and hogs, row crops and hay. With the development of Rathbun Lake, they were forced to move. They relocated to their present farm near Corydon, Iowa in March 1968, where they have lived for 58 years.
Dean thoroughly enjoyed farm life, including planting and harvesting crops and raising livestock. He was quite proud of assisting his 2 sons, son-in-law and 6 grandsons in becoming farmers. He encouraged them in their 4-H activities and was a quiet, but ardent supporter of the Wayne County Fair. He very much enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren exhibit their 4-H projects and participate in sports.
Farming hindered them from taking regular vacations, but he and Reva enjoyed travels to Florida, the Bahamas, Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada. They also took several trips to Arizona and enjoyed their yearly trip to Branson, Missouri. They enjoyed visiting antique shops and markets, seeking to add to their collections.
Dean is survived by his wife, Reva, sons Terry (Jean) Lain and Gary (Missy) Lain, and daughter Lisa (Brian) Moore. Grandchildren are Justin (Jenna) Lain, Tyler (Kate) Lain, Kenton (Erica) Lain, Ashley (Shay) Woods, Hannah (Tanner) Kelly, Dillon (Dally) Lain, Trent (Makenzie) Moore and Blake Moore. Great-grandchildren include Tucker, Brantley, and Karsyn Lain; Emma and Harper Lain; Jensen and Hagen Lain; TJ, Hayes, and Quinn Kelly; Kambrie Schoolcraft and Lainey Woods; Haddie and Drake Lain; Kollyns Moore, and one on the way. Also surviving are brother, Keith (Lorena) Lain, Sister-in-law, Eleanor Cox, Brother-in-law, Richard (Sue) Darrah, and special friends, Margueritte and Jim Rardin. Dean's trusty companion dog of 15 years, Penny, also survives.
Dean was preceded in death by brothers-in-law Billie Darrah, Donald (Sandra) Darrah, and William Cox, parents, George and Leola Lain and parents-in-law, Dalton and Thelma Darrah.
Dean was known as a good farmer and a good neighbor, always willing to help pull a tractor out of the mud, get a cow in, mow the roadside or blade a driveway. He enjoyed visiting with
neighbors, friends and relatives and will be sorely missed.
