Dean Chester's Obituary
Merle ""Dean"" Chester, age 70, of Mystic, Iowa passed away Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.
Dean was born on December 21, 1939 in Lucas County, the son of Myrl and Oneta (Johnson) Chester. He married Alice Kaestner on November 24, 1967 at the Nazarene church in Kirksville, Missouri.
Dean worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for twenty five years. He retired in 1999 from the road maintenance unit. Dean was a volunteer for the Mystic Fire Department/Mystic First Responders for over twenty five years.
In his free time, Dean enjoyed numerous hobbies, especially fishing, barbecuing and playing cards. In his younger years he liked to hunt.
He is survived by his wife of forty two years, Alice Chester of Mystic, Iowa; four children, Betty (Pat) Howell of Sugar Land, Texas, Tina (Bruce) Amos of Indianola, Iowa, Lisa (Tim) Croushorn of Tampa, Florida, and Chris Chester (Heather Faulkner) of Mystic, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Jordan and Taylor Howell of Sugar Land, Texas, T.J. and Trevor Amos of Indianola, Iowa, Cody Amos of New Virginia, Iowa, Josh Amos of San Diego, Iowa, and Alaina and Aspen Croushorn of Tampa, Florida; three great grandchildren, Katelyn and Colton Amos of New Virginia, Iowa, and Denali Amos of Indianola, Iowa; two brothers-in-law, Don (Cyndi) Kaestner of Fort Worth, Texas, Dick (Karla) Kaestner of Knoxville, Iowa; a sister-in-law Jo Chester of Chariton, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother Charles Chester.
Graveside services will be held 2PM, Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at Highland Cemetery in Mystic, Iowa. A visitation will be held Tuesday at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with the family present from 6-8. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the family and may be given to Lange Funeral Home. Condolences may be left for the Chester family online at www.langefh.com.
