Dean Bucklin's Obituary
Cecil Dean Bucklin, age 72, of Centerville, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2026 at his home.
Born on September 14, 1953, in Newton, Iowa, Dean was the son of Thomas and Martha (Huffaker) Bucklin. He graduated from Newton High School and later attended college courses before pursuing the life that was always closest to his heart-farming. While his career led him to many places, the farm was where he truly belonged. Caring for his cattle wasn't simply work; it was his passion. He found great satisfaction in the daily rhythm of farm life, and there was no place he would have rather been than out among the livestock he loved.
Alongside farming, Dean dedicated an incredible forty plus years to the same manufacturing facility as it evolved through several names-Union Carbide, Viskase, Curwood, and finally Bemis. Through every transition, he remained a dependable, hardworking employee whose commitment and loyalty never wavered until his retirement.
One of the greatest blessings of Dean's life came when he met Vicki (Hols) Dischner. Together, they shared 41 years filled with unwavering love, laughter, and companionship. Their relationship was built on devotion, mutual respect, and countless memories that became the foundation of a life well lived together. Whether working side by side, enjoying quiet moments at home, or simply facing life's challenges as a team, Dean treasured every year they shared.
Those who knew Dean will remember a man whose hands were rarely still and whose heart was firmly rooted in the values of hard work, loyalty, and dedication. He believed in earning an honest day's living, caring for what was entrusted to him, and loving those closest to him with steadfast commitment. His quiet strength, dependable nature, and genuine kindness left a lasting impression on family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers alike.
Left to honor Dean's memory are the love of his life, Vicki Dischner; his mother, Martha Bucklin; his siblings, Marsha (Richard) Hansen, Rita (Jerry) Machac, Larry (Jane) Bucklin, Cheryle White, Jeanne (Dave) Owens, Dixie Teter, Bob (Cathy) Bucklin, Marilyn (John) Homyk, Jane (Jim) Jenkins and Rick (Diane) Bucklin; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews, great-great nieces & nephews and extended family members.
Dean was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Bucklin; his brother, Butch Bucklin; as well as his maternal and fraternal grandparents.
Per wishes, cremation has been accorded and there will be private services at a later date. Memorials in honor of Dean can be written to Vicki Dischner, to be designated at a later date, and may be mailed to Thomas Funeral Home, ATTN: Bucklin Family, 501 North 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
