David Roy Shaeffer's Obituary
David 'Roy' Shaeffer, age 93, of Mystic, Iowa, died Saturday, July 11, 2015, at Golden Age Care Center in Centerville, Iowa. He was born the son of David D. and Lelah E. (Stickler) Shaeffer on September 28, 1921 in Centerville, Iowa. He attended a rural Appanoose country school.Roy served his country honorably from October of 1942 until his discharge in December of 1945 with the US Army with the 211th Military Police Company. On March 14, 1942, Roy was united in marriage to Alma E. Lowe in Lancaster, Missouri. He owned Shaeffer Cartage in Mystic,Iowa and also worked for a time at the Elementary school in Mystic. In his free time, he enjoyed going to his favorite fishing hole. He is preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Alma Shaeffer on September 10, 1997; his son, David Shaeffer; a grandson, David Wright and a brother, Clarence Shaeffer.Roy is survived by: his daughters, Karen Shaeffer of Mystic, Iowa and Linda Sue Orsborn and her husband, Therman of Apache Junction, Arizona; ten grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 am, Thursday, July 16, 2015 at the Highland Cemetery near Mystic, Iowa. Full military honors will be given by the Mystic American Legion. Visitation will be held 1 hour before the service at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present.Memorials can be made to Highland Cemetery Association and left or mailed to the funeral home.
