David James McGill's Obituary
DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS THE FUNERAL SERVICE FOR DAVID MCGILL HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL SUNDAY DECEMBER 15, 2024 AT 2:00PM AT FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH.
David James McGill, age 86, of Centerville, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at MercyOne Medical Center in Centerville surrounded by his family.
David was born on April 14, 1938 in Iowa Falls, Iowa, the son of Milton McGill and Dorotha Katherine (Burgin) McGill. He graduated from Seymour High School. On June 14, 1959, David was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Ralston, and to this union, seven children were born, Debbie, Cathy, Marilyn, Andrew, James, Tim, and Jerry.
David owned and operated McGill's Repair and Construction since 1993. He specialized in electrical, heating and cooling. He thoroughly enjoyed being around his customers. Upon retirement, his son, James and grandson-in-law, Tim took over the business.
In his free time, David enjoyed woodworking, being involved in the Appanoose County 4-H cow-calf projects, very active in the First Baptist Church in Centerville as a worship leader and elder, and most importantly, being with his family.
Left to honor David's memory are his wife of over 65 years, Shirley McGill; his children, Debbie (Dale) Thomas, Cathy Berner, Marilyn (Brad) McVey, Andrew (Janet) McGill, James (Carla) McGill, Tim (Stephanie) McGill, and Jerry McGill; 22 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; his brothers, Mickal (Edith) McGill and Steve McGill; as well as several extended family and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Dorotha McGill; his sister, Janet Anderson; and his son-in-law, Paul Berner.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00PM, Sunday, December 15, 2024 at the First Baptist Church in Centerville with Pastor Tony Alexander officiating. Burial will follow the service at Southlawn Cemetery in Seymour. Visitation will take place Friday, December 13, 2024 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with the family greeting friends from 5:00-7:00PM.
