Hello, I'm Earl, the last member of the bean can five. We were young (I was 15) the others were a little older like David, Oren Gale, Dick Caylor and Orris Powell. David was kind of the ring leader for fun, so we decided to take a summer trip out West. We saved our money all summer. We needed a car to drive since none of us had a car. Dick borrowed his Dad's 1946 Ford 4 door, no air conditioner and no heater and we left about the 1st of August headed West. Mothers fixed a little food. We had blankets, tarpaulins, etc., but no tent. We slept on the ground and built fires for heat. We had beans for every meal - thus the name the bean can five was our moniker. Besides visiting Parks, etc. the high lite of every day was the flat tires. I think we had at least 12 flats and the car used a lot of oil. At our stop at Yellowstone Park, the bears got in the car and ate our food. More beans to buy! Our last stop was at Eldora, Iowa at Pine Lake where Brethren Church had summer camp. I know that David is in the greatest camp site with our Lord Jesus Christ. I'm the only one left , but know we will be together again at the greatest camp ground of all with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Thanks for hearing our story of the Bean Camp Five. EARL
