David Paul Coffin's Obituary
David Paul Coffin, age 55, of Rathbun, Iowa, passed away Friday, January 11, 2019 at his home.
He was born in Centerville, Iowa October 13, 1963. David graduated from Seymour High School with the Class of 1982, and furthered his education at Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, Missouri, earning a Bachelors Degree of Science in Criminology.
Throughout his adolescent and early adult years, David formed a special relationship with his foster parents, Bill and Mary Bostwick, and enjoyed learning, working, and living the farm life. David also shared a relationship with his mother, Marilyn (Creagan) Coffin. Furthermore, as an adult, he developed a special bond with the Rathbun community. Residing in Rathbun for many years, David strived to better the town in many ways, including his official title as Rathbun Mayor for a brief period of time.
After earning his degree, David worked for Appanoose County Soil Conservation in Centerville. In 1994 David began his employment with Iowa Steel and Wire in Centerville, leaving only for a brief time to drive dairy tanker from farm to processing. He was still employed with Iowa Steele and Wire at the time of his passing.
In his free time, David enjoyed fishing, kayaking, attending auctions, antique collecting, and spending a lot of time with his extended Rathbun area family watching the Iowa State University Football games.
He is survived by his sister, Deborah Fenton of Centerville; two nephews, Andrew (Fianc Shandel) Fenton of Mystic and Chad Fenton of Centerville; two great nephews, Layne and Conor Fenton; two great nieces, Morgan and Rilynn Fenton; and his Foster Mother, Mary Bostwick.
David was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn (Creagan) Coffin; a brother, Dennis Coffin; and his Foster Father, Bill Bostwick.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 AM, Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Rev. Jeremy Croteau officiating. A visitation will take place on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 5-7 PM. A memorial has been established to the Family of David Coffin and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St, Centerville, Iowa, 52544. Condolences may be shared online at www.langefh.com.
