Darrell Lloyd Moore Obituary's Obituary
Darrell Lloyd Moore, second son of Lloyd Everett and Floye Ester (Reed) was born at a farm home east of Powersville, Missouri on August 21, 1923. He passed away March 21, 2013 at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon. The family moved to a farm west of Powersville where Darrell attended the Tinkum country school for eight years. Darrell entered the Powersville High School where he and brother rode a horse to school. After school he helped his parents on the family farm. In October 1944 he was drafted into the Army and was stationed at Little Rock, Arkansas. Six months later he was sent to Germany where he was a chauffeur for General Patton. Then with the help of other soldiers they captured the family of Lippizaner horses. Acting as a lieutenant he was sent to the front line. Walking through a thick forest he spotted and helped liberate the Dachau prison camp. A few weeks after the war ended he was returned to the United States and given an honorable discharge. On March 19, 1945 he married Irene Cobb. To this union two sons were born: Steven Lyle and Clell Dean. Darrell and Irene enjoyed 68 years together. Farming was Darrell's pride and joy. He and Irene bought a farm five miles south of Corydon where they lived for 65 years. Darrell always enjoyed an evening ride in his pick-up checking the cows and calves and when the combine was rolled out in the fall he was the first to get the wagons and other equipment ready for the harvest. His son Steve Moore, parents Lloyd and Floye Moore, sister LeMere Bettis and brothers John and Jerry Moore preceded him in death.
