Darlene Montgomery's Obituary
Ava Darlene Montgomery, 93, of Corydon went to be with the Lord, Sunday, December 6, 2015 at Wayne County Hospital.
Darlene was born to Chester & Lula (Swan) Becker on November 14, 1922 in Corydon. She was raised on a farm and learned to be a hard worker. She attended Corydon High School. After her junior year she was united in marriage to Wilbur Montgomery on August 10, 1940, they were married for 67 years. To this union were four children: Waneta, Marlyn, Nolan and Gary.
Darlene was a good helpmate with Wilbur on the farm. She enjoyed raising her chickens, a large garden and spending time with her flowers. Darlene was a wonderful cook and enjoyed passing that art on to her daughters. Darlene received Christ as her Savior as a young woman and was a long time member of Corydon Bible Church.
Darlene was a homemaker for the majority of her life, she did work at the Wayne County Hospital as a nurse’s aide and ward clerk. After retirement, she began quilting and made many beautiful hand sewn quilts. Darlene was a kind, quiet, caring woman with a sweet smile. She always had a listening ear for her family and friends. She never gossiped or had an unkind word for anyone.
Survivors include, daughter, Waneta Rupe (Garry) of Ankeny, daughter, Marlyn Montgomery of Corydon, son, Gary Montgomery (Terri) of Evansville, IN, brother, Gerald Becker (Geri) of Corydon, sister-in-law Gloria Becker of Corydon, four grandchildren, six great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband Wilbur Montgomery, infant son Nolan Montgomery, brother, Oren Becker, and infant brother Oral Becker.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday November 11, 2015 at the Corydon Bible Church with Jeff Hontz officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10-11:00 a.m... Memorials may be given to Corydon Bible Church or Wayne County Hospital and condolences may be shared at www.thomasrandolphfh.com.
