Darlene Colleen Miller's Obituary
Darlene Colleen Miller, 73, of Mystic, Iowa, died Monday, April 30, 2012, at her daughter's home in Numa, Iowa. She was born on June 10, 1938 in Numa, Iowa the daughter of Robert "Bob" Perry and Velta Lorene (Agan) Barrell. She grew up on a farm in rural Seymour and attended Seymour High School, and later at the age of 60, would receive her GED.She was first united in marriage to Delbert Engle on June, 18 1955, they were later divorced, then on July 12, 1980 she was united in marriage to John "Jack" Miller in Numa, Iowa. Darlene worked at Golden Age Care Center in Centerville as a nurse's aide. She also worked in several local factories throughout the years, including McGraw-Edison in and Neeley Manufacturing, before retiring from Curwood in 2002. In her spare moments, Darlene took great pleasure in spending time with family and friends and sharing stories with anyone within earshot. She loved soaking up memories by taking photographs. Darlene enjoyed spending time with her fellow Jehovah's Witnesses. She also liked gardening, attending rummage sales, and spending time with her dog, Harley.She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, John Miller; son, Walter Gene Engle; sister-in-law, Carol (McVeigh) Barrell; grandson, Craig Delbert Engle (son of Chester); granddaughters, Delisha Marie Engle (daughter of Don); Danielle Marie Stroud (daughter of Colleen); great-grandson, Devyn Craig Engle (son of Brandy Engle); and niece, Stephanie Morrow (daughter of Carma).Darlene is survived by: her children, Jack and his wife, Melody Engle of Mystic, Iowa, Chester and his wife, Karen Engle of Centerville, Iowa, John and his wife, Becky Engle of Moravia, Iowa, Colleen Stroud of Centerville, Iowa, Marlene Williamson and her husband, Kevin of Numa, Iowa and Don Engle and his wife, Mary Jo of Plano, Iowa; twenty grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren; sisters, Shirley (Bob) Tomlinson of Castle Rock, Colorado, Sharon (Don) Phelps of Centerville, Iowa, Carma (Bill) Morrow of Centerville, Iowa; brothers, Perry (Lou) Barrell of Pasedena, Maryland, Gary (Dorthy) Barrell of Centerville, Iowa, Donnie (Marilyn) Barrell of Ackworth, Iowa and Rodger (Janie) Barrell of Centerville, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with her son, the Reverend Jack Engle officiating. Burial will follow at Haines Cemetery north of Centerville. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2012 from 2 pm until 8 pm at the Funeral Home, with the family present 6:00-8:00 p.m. that evening.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and left at or mailed to the funeral home.
