Darlene Joy Gordy's Obituary
Darlene Joy Gordy of Exline passed away Monday, December 19, 2022, at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville surrounded by her loving family.
Joy was born to Laurel and Geneva Brown in Promise City on December 26,1949. She was the sixth of eight children. During her childhood she attended Seymour School. On March 9,1974 she was united in marriage to Carroll Gordy in Unionville, Mo.
Joy worked at Baxter Box Factory, McGraw Edison and then for 24 years at Young Radiator until it's closing.
She enjoyed attending auctions with Carroll, spending time with her sisters, and hosting family and friends for July 4th celebrations. She loved reading and being outdoors. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed trying out new recipes. Joy was a fun-loving grandmother and loved spending time with and spoiling her grandsons.
Joy loved planting flowers, feeding her hummingbirds, and spent many hours taking care of her flower beds and landscaping. She had a beautiful yard that many would stop to look at.
Survivors include her husband Carroll Gordy of Exline; her son Jack Briggs and his wife Melanie of Albia; two grandsons; Zachary Briggs of Centerville and Jacob Briggs of Albia; sisters Lois Ziegler and Elaine McGrann and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Laurel and Geneva; her brothers Allen and Ellis Brown; sisters DeVee Baker, Bernita Simonson, and Jan Hancox.
A Celebration of Life be held at 11:00 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 with Pastor Kay Singley officiating. Visitation will take place Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with the family greeting friends from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow at the Exline Cemetery.
