Daniel M Bakke's Obituary
Daniel Melford Bakke, age 77, of Moravia, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2025 at his home.
Daniel was born on December 16, 1947 in Indianola, Iowa, the son of Theodore and Florence (Lewis) Bakke. He graduated from Indianola High School with the Class of 1965. He furthered his education, earning himself a bachelor's degree and a master's degree. On January 26, 1971, Daniel enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country faithfully as an Assistant Chaplin and Religious Affairs Clerk for almost 2 years before he was transferred to the United States Army Reserves. He was honorably discharged on January 25, 1977.
On February 25, 1983, Daniel married the love of his life, Kristin L. Gilbert in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Daniel was a Public Librarian in Altoona for many years. In his free time, he enjoyed boat riding, fishing, gardening, reading and being a Boy Scout leader.
Left to honor Daniel's memory are his wife of 42 years, Kristin Bakke; his children, Karin (Alex) Brun, Kati (Joe) Cerniglia-Hipps, Thomas Bakke, Nicole Strittmatter, and Michael (Veronica) Strittmatter; seven grandchildren; his brother, Andrew (Carol) Bakke; as well as numerous extended family members.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Florence Bakke.
Per Daniel's wishes, cremation has been accorded and there will be no services held at this time. Memorials in honor of Daniel have been established to St. Jude Children's Hospital, and may be mailed to Thomas Funeral Home, ATTN: Bakke Family, 501 North 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
