Dale Weeks' Obituary
Dale Weeks, age 78, of Seymour, Iowa, died on Sunday, November 28, 2021, from complications after surgery.
Dale was born on June 16, 1943, the youngest of Earl and Susan (Gerber) Weeks eight children. Dale was raised in rural Carroll County, Iowa, and graduated from Carroll Kuemper Catholic High School in 1961. He received his bachelors degree from Northwest Missouri State University and went on to obtain his masters and specialist degrees in education from Drake University. Dale devoted his career to public education in Iowa. He taught mathematics and science at Southeast Warren Schools, was principal at Collins, and served as superintendent of schools at Mingo, Woodward-Granger, and Seymour. When he retired in 2007, Dale Weeks concluded his career as one of the longest-serving school administrators in the state of Iowa.
Dale raised four children with Penelope (Gardner) Scavo: Jenifer Owenson (Chris), of Des Moines; Julia Simanski (Todd), of Ankeny; Jill Weeks, of Post Falls, Idaho; and Anthony Weeks, of San Francisco, California. He was a supportive and encouraging father for his children in their athletic, musical, artistic, intellectual, and professional pursuits. Dale took special interest in his grandchildrens activities, as well, cheering them on at games, meets, performances, and recitals. As "Papa Dale", he was loved by his grandchildren Taylor Karns, Anna Owenson, Connor Simanski, Olivia Simanski, Chad Norris, and Madeline Norris.
Dale Weeks married Roberta (French) Weeks in 1995. He became family to Robertas son, Steve (Susan) Rumelhart, and Robertas daughter, Sherri (Brad) Rumelhart. Dale will be remembered with fondness and warmth by grandchildren Helen, Shevin (Preston), and Kheila (Alex), and great-grandchildren Laura Rae, Landon, Lincoln, Layilee, and Everett.
A Renaissance man, Dale had a wide range of interests and hobbies throughout his adult life. He was an avid gardener, golfer, and woodworker. Dale expressed his love for others through his creativity and artistry and made numerous handcrafted gifts out of wood for family and friends. At various times, Dale also raised horses, restored vintage Thunderbirds, made raspberry pies, experimented with winemaking, taught himself how to play the guitar, and vacationed throughout the United States. He was a lifelong fan of TV westerns, rock and roll music from the 1950s and 60s, college sports, and impromptu conversations with strangers.
Dale Weeks had many roles during his life: son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, friend, neighbor, administrator, and community member. He will be remembered by many as a kind, loyal, and humble person. He could be counted on to offer help, say "yes" to a request for a favor, and assume the best in others. His life was one well-livedwith grace, integrity, and resilience. He will be dearly missed but his legacy will live long in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife Roberta, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, Dale is survived by his sister Twilla Hoffman, of Carroll, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Richard, Harold, Edra, Cleo, Maurice, and Ron.
