Dale H. Riegel's Obituary
Dale H. Riegel, age 78, of Moravia, Iowa, died Monday, February 4, 2008 at Monroe County Hospital in Albia, Iowa. He was born the son of George and Hazel (Stuckey) Riegel on August 24, 1929 in Braymer, Missouri. He graduated from Braymer Community Schools.On November 18, 1949, Dale was united in marriage to La Verna Rumans in Kansas City, Kansas. They moved to Unionville, Iowa in 1951. Dale served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed at John Deere in Ottumwa, Iowa for many years. Dale Loved the Lord and attended the Church of the Nazarene in Moravia, Iowa. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Moravia; the Yorkrite bodie's in Centerville, Iowa, the Kaaba Shrine in Davenport, Iowa and the Centerville Shrine Club as well as the Order of Eastern Star in Centerville. He also had a membership in the American Legion in Unionville, Iowa. He loved to spend many hours making things out of wood and then giving them away to someone he loved. No matter how busy he was, Dale always had time for his family. For many years, you could find him attending his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren's activities. He liked sports and missed very few until he was unable to attend due to his health. He was an avid golfer and look forward to the times he would spend with his buddies.He is preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Bob Wyrick and Tom Riegel.Dale is survived by: his wife, La Verna Riegel of Moravia, Iowa; daughters, Sharon and her husband, Dan McDanel, Karen Riegel and Nancy and her husband, Marty Hatfield all of Moravia, Iowa; grandchildren, Melinda and her husband, Bryce Johnson of Moravia, Iowa, Michelle and her husband, Jason Hall of Waukee, Iowa, Monica and her husband, Lance Risher of Centerville, Iowa, Melanie and her husband, Brian Templeton of Centerville, Iowa, Brandon Hatfield of Moravia, Iowa and Tasha and her husband, Brandon Irving of Moravia, Iowa; great grandchildren, Devyn, Gavin and Mason Johnson, Austin and Zander Hall, Kyler, Kailyn, Rhylan and Anessa Risher, Kaleb and Ellie Templeton; brother, Jack Riegel of Mt. Morris, Illinois; sister, Mary West of Windsor, Missouri and a sister-in-law, Winnie Wyrick of Bonner Springs, Kansas.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at 10:30 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Terry Chapman officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at the Unionville Cemetery near Unionville, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 8, 2008 from 1 pm till 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 6 pm till 8 pm and a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 pm at the funeral home.Memorials can be made to the Monroe County Hospital and left at the funeral home.
