He was born to Charley and Stella (Mosbey) DeVore on January 17, 1927 at the DeVore Family farmstead north of Promise City. In his late teens, Dale joined his three brothers with the family farm operation. Together they farmed the family land their entire lives, tending to both row crop and cattle, most notably registered angus cattle. In the 1950s the DeVore Family Farm built a sign to represent its passion for angus cattle, 'Double D Angus Ranch.'
Dale was united in marriage to Mary Helen Ervin on November 15, 1953 in Conrad, Iowa. To this union of marriage, four children were born, Dennis, Doug, Donald, and Brian.
Dale was a lifetime believer in hard work, spending countless hours throughout the years farming the land he was raised on. He also believed in honesty. A man of his word, Dale did not need a handshake to make an agreement. Most importantly, the driving force in Dale's life was the love he possessed for his family.

He was known by family and friends to be a 'walking encyclopedia,' reciting dates, times, figures, as well as many other details. Furthermore, through his cognitive abilities, he possessed a large knowledge base of both family history and American history.
Dale and his wife, Mary Helen were long time members of the Promise City Methodist Church.
