Crystal Fern Mason's Obituary
Crystal Mason, 96, of Leon passed away, Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Westview Acres in Leon. Crystal was born on February 23, 1920 in Sac City, Iowa to William & Sylvia (Masteller) Spicer.Crystal was united in marriage to David Mason in Sac City on March 23, 1940. To this union were six children; Jack, Jerry, Richard, Jeanette, Charles and Mike. Crystal went to Sunday School and church in the First Christian country church that was two miles from her home and was baptized in 1929 in Sac City. She and David were farmers. Crystal was also employed at the five and dime store in Sac City for a time before she and David moved to Decatur County. After moving to the area in 1962, Crystal owned and operated the Woodland Store. Crystal enjoyed dancing, working at her store, gardening and visiting with people. She was a devoted wife and mother who loved cooking for her family and spending time with them, especially her grandchildren. Crystal was also a devoted Christian who wanted her grandchildren to know the Lord, having them attend Bible school at the Woodland Church. Survivors include five children; Jack Mason (Judy) of Garden Grove, Jerry Mason (Leslie) of Corydon, Jeanette Kentner (Tom) of Elliott, Iowa, Charles Mason (Linda) of Humeston, Mike Mason of Leon, brother, Keith Spicer (Betty) of Sac City, sisters-in-law; Macle Spicer of Guilford, MO, Doreen Evert of Hinton, and Betty Grimsman of Lakeview, and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband David, son Richard Mason and three brothers; Wayne, Lawrence and Lloyd Spicer and a sister Eva Richards. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 3, 2016 at Trinity Christian Church in Leon with Rev. Terry Roberts officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior from 1-2 p.m. Interment will follow immediately at Beavers Cemetery near Leon. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Central Iowa or to Trinity Christian Church and condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com.
