Coleen McConville's Obituary
B. Coleen McConville, age 79, of Centerville, Iowa, died Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. She was born the daughter of James and Madeline (Scritchfield) Richardson on May 4, 1931 near Cincinnati, Iowa. She graduated from the Centerville Community Schools in 1949.On March 18, 1950. Coleen was united in marriage to Leo McConville in Centerville, Iowa. She worked for a time at Zahrris Grocery in Centerville and would later be a Sales Consultant for Avon and JC Penny. She loved being a homemaker and caring for her family. She was a Cubscout Leader, a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, Ladies Golf at the Appanoose Country Club and St. Mary's Catholic Church all in Centerville. Coleen was born in the midst of the great depression to very hard laboring parents who worked a small farm for a Unionville, Missouri businessman. It was during that time she understood what it was like to be poor, her dresses sewn from the cloth of feed sacks. She never forgot her roots and was always kind and generous to people in need. She enjoyed the rural life, fields of corn, golden trees, gentle creeks and beautiful sunsets. She was a gentle and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt. She was an only child therefore she treasured her cousins , aunts, uncles and Leo's large McConville family. She loved big band music and dances with her husband. She prepared the most beautiful tables and served the most delicious Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. She loved camping, golfing and playing cards. After Leos retirement they enjoyed vacationing at the Laguna Reef in Rockport Texas, where the spent time with dear friends new and old. She was a lovely and caring woman and was a great friend to many.She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Leo McConville on November 8, 1998; and a special friend, L. Jay Johnson on March 17, 2007.Coleen is survived by: her children, a daughter, Diane Ranes and her husband, Frank of Centerville, Iowa; sons, Jim McConville of Centerville, Iowa and Mark McConville of Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren, Scott Ranes of Urbandale, Iowa, Bryan Ranes of Centerville, Iowa, Becky Melvin and Sarah McConville both of Centerville, Iowa and Matt McConville of Omaha, Nebraska; five great grandchildren.Mass of Resurrection will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 10:30 AM at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville with Fr. Dennis Schwab officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 from 1 pm till 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 6 pm till 8 pm and a prayer service at 7 pm.Memorials can be made to the Lords Cupboard or The Ladies of Saint Mary's and left or mailed to the funeral home.
