Clyde L. Stevens' Obituary
Clyde L. Stevens, age 83, of rural Centerville, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, Iowa. He was born on November 10, 1931, in Cincinnati, Iowa, the son of John and Opal (Coulson) Stevens. He graduated from Moravia High School in 1950. On November 17, 1952, Clyde was united in marriage to Helen McCoy in Albia, Iowa. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952 until 1954, receiving an honorable discharge.Clyde worked for John Morrell & Company in Ottumwa, Iowa, for 20 years. After the Morrell plant closed, he operated heavy equipment on road construction in Iowa and Missouri until retirement. He also raised Black Angus cattle.He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Naomi McCoy and Leta Holtz.Clyde is survived by his wife, Helen Stevens; daughter, Rhonda Caylor and her husband, Barry, of Centerville, Iowa; granddaughters, Kristi Caylor and Kelly Caylor, and great grandson, Kaden Caylor, all of West Des Moines, Iowa; sisters, Ireta Cook of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Ethel McClurg of Moulton, Iowa; also nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, May 2, 2015, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa, with Rev. Lloyd Johnston officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Haines Cemetery north of Centerville. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 am until the time of services with the family present beginning at 11 am. Memorials can be made either to the Cline Family Dialysis Center or the First Baptist Church in Centerville and left or mailed to the funeral home.
