Clive Lee Wells' Obituary
Clive Lee Wells. 92, formerly of Plano, Iowa passed away peacefully on March 4, 2024 at Centerville Mercy Hospital Long Term Care.
Clive was born on September 9, 1931 to Rex and Ruby (Bear) Wells. Clive attended the Jones country school through eighth grade and graduated from Seymour Community School in 1949. Clive served in the United Stated Army from 1953 - 1955. After he returned home from the service, he attended Centerville Community College receiving his liberal arts degree.
Clive started farming with his dad and brother, Roger after high school. Besides row crop, he was also a successful pork and beef producer. Clive received many awards for his excellence in farming and soil conservation.
Starting out farming, he would frequent a local feed store, because he had his eye on a "cute girl" who worked there. That girl was Margaret Ann Kauzlarich. Clive and Margaret were married on July 27, 1957. To this union four sons were born; Jeff, Joel, Josh and Jon. He and Margaret were faithful members of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville, Iowa.
Clive always had an interest in sports, both participating as well as watching. He was in several high school sports and participated in slow and fast pitch softball leagues in the Plano area. He umpired many softball games at Plano using the proceeds to fund family vacations at summers end. Clive and Margaret enjoyed attending all of their son's sporting events and continued the tradition watching grandchildren, and eventually great-grandchildren. They were faithful supporters of the Seymour Warriors and continued to attend games even when family wasn't participating. Clive enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and loved cribbage tournaments. He had impeccable timing when it was his turn to play that one card that won the game, which usually followed by a big grin.
Clive served his community in many ways. He was on the Appanoose County ASC Committee, Extension Council, and the Appanoose County Fair Board. He was also elected to the Seymour Community School Board. He was a county township committee member and served many years as treasurer for the city of Plano. Clive was a true patriot. He continued to serve his country after his military service as a member of the Seymour American Legion. He helped with funerals, community celebrations, and was always proud to serve his country.
Clive was preceded in death by his wife Margaret; son, Josh Wells; parents Rex and Ruby, Step-mother Ethel Wells; sisters Leone Irwin, Lila Haines, and Dixie Millizer, Step-sisters Geraldine Fadiga, Gretchen Fadiga, Donna Davis, and Eleanor Jones.
He is survived by sons, Jeff (Diana) Wells, Joel (Bonita) Wells, Jon (Misty) Wells, daughter-in-law, Darla Wells; 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter. Also brother, Roger (Norma) Wells and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of friends.
