Clinton Swan's Obituary
Clinton Eugene Swan, 79, of Centerville passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Centerville Specialty Care. Clinton was the youngest of six children born to Cor & Myrle (Brinkley) Swan on March 26, 1938, at the family farm home southwest of Seymour, Iowa. He attended Seymour High School, graduating in 1956. Clinton was united in marriage to Rose Collins and they had one daughter, Penny. They later divorced. Clinton worked for the International dealership in Centerville for several years eventually purchasing the business. He owned and operated Swan Equipment until 1976. Clinton also farmed and did heavy equipment construction work. Clinton rode motorcycles and raced cars, although his favorite pastime was flying his airplane, a 1946 Aeronca 7 Champ. He enjoyed flying over the fields of the family farms in Wayne County. After retirement, Clinton took up dancing full time. He enjoyed every kind of music and dancing but loved dancing to polka music the most. He went far and wide to dances wherever the music was best. He was known as one of the best dancers around Southern Iowa and Northern Missouri. Clinton was a regular at Hardee's in Centerville. He spent years earning his nickname "The Aggravator". Survivors include his daughter Penny Sias (Marty) of Centerville, four grandchildren: Chazman (Jenni), Cassye (Katrina) Shakira, Corey (Carly), two great grandchildren: Mylee Sias, Jasper Sias, sister, Helen Swan Snider of Seymour and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister, Bernard and Dorotha in infancy; Kenneth Swan and sister Norma Holmes. Memorial service will take place 11:00 a.m., November 4, 2017 at Thomas Funeral Home in Seymour with a visitation one hour prior to service. Inurnment will be in Southlawn Cemetery.
