Clinton Commadore Hellyer Obituary's Obituary
Clinton Hellyer, oldest son of Alfred Hellyer and Kate Anne Draper Hellyer was born on a farm in South Fork Township on September 22nd 1919. Clinton was a member of Union Church and lived on a farm nearby. He loved playing baseball and was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He also took pleasure in playing cards with special friends and neighbors. Clinton was married to Wynema Thatcher on May 8th, 1938. They were married 70 years until the death of Wynema May 1, 2009. Into this union was born three children, Connie, Craig and Dennis. Clinton and Wynema spent 40 years of their married life on farms in the New Zion community west of Corydon. Clinton was especially proud of his pedigreed black angus cattle and his very straight rows of corn. He was an active member of the community and served as a 4-H leader, was on the county board of trustees, also was on the election board, and a member of the Aberdeen Angus Association. He was a good neighbor to all and frequently helped out with crops and livestock. After retiring from farming Clinton and Wynema moved to Corydon and spent 25 years together in their home across from the Corydon Methodist Church where they were members. Clinton was preceded in death by his parents, sisters La Von Dunshee and husband Raymond, Wanda Horner and husband Roy, and Patricia Moore. Also brother Gene Hellyer and wife June, and brother Donald who died in infancy. Surviving Clinton are his children daughter Connie Whiteley, Chicago, IL. Son Craig and his wife Lindell, Davenport, IA. Son Dennis and wife Cheryl, Coralville, IA. Grandchildren mourning the loss of their grandpa are Todd and Erin Whiteley of Royal Oak MI, Tracey and Ray Scheppach of Chicago, IL, B.J. and Kirsten Hellyer of Lake Elmo Minn. Heidi and Dan Elser of Iowa City, IA. Allison Hellyer of Coralville, IA. and Josh Hellyer of Des Moines IA. Eight great grandchildren also brightened Clinton's life. Lucas Whiteley, Ryan and Sean Scheppach, Josie, Laney and Miles Hellyer, Henry and Hudson Elser. Also surviving Clinton are sister-in-law Lucille (Mrs. Dale) Thatcher and brother-in law Max Moore.
