Clifford Wayne Cosby's Obituary
Clifford Wayne Cosby, age 83 of Moulton, Iowa died on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at Good Samaritan Center in Ottumwa, Iowa. He was born the son of Clarence and Ruby (Buck) Cosby on March 24, 1923 in Elmer, Missouri. He graduated from the Atlanta Community Schools in Atlanta, Missouri. He later received his Bachelors Degree from Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri and a Masters Degree from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.Clifford served his country during WWII with the United States Army Quartermaster Corp., most of the time in the Solomon Islands and the Philippines from 1944 till 1946. On June 2, 1951, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Morrow in Kirksville, Missouri. Cliff moved to Moulton in 1948 where he taught at Moulton Community High School for ten years, setting up the first driver's Training Program in Appanoose County. After leaving the educational field, he went into business with his father-in-law, Hubert Morrow in the family John Deere business and also raised livestock. In later years he was associated with International Harvester and Case IH in sales and service. After retiring, he opened a Cub Cadet lawn and garden business in Centerville which he operated until his health failed.Cliff was active in many community projects. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #317, Burl McClure American Legion Post, Moulton Chamber of Commerce, Moulton Fire Department, Moulton Flying Club. He served as a member of the Moulton-Udell School Board for 9 years where he also served as its President. He was a former Mayor of Moulton, a Board member of Appanoose County Compensation Board and was a member of the Centerville Shrine Club and the KAABA Temple in Davenport, Iowa. He was a Past-Master of the Masonic Lodge in Centerville, Iowa.He was preceded in death by: his parents and an infant brother.Cliff is survived by: his wife, Phyllis Cosby of Moulton, Iowa and a son, John Cosby and his companion, Katie Baum of Centerville, Iowa; grandchildren, Laura Elizabeth Cosby of Ottumwa, Iowa and Jordan Baum of Centerville, Iowa; step-sisters, Geraldine Gibson and Helena Mulvaney both of Macon, Missouri.Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 1 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Moulton, Iowa with Rev. Dianne Christopher officiating. Burial of ash will be at a later date at the Oakland Cemetery west of Moulton.
