Cleona Monteith's Obituary
Cleona Lee (Sales) Monteith "Tony" was born December 3, 1921 to Charles and Frankie (Ferren) Sales in Seymour, Iowa. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 11, 2010 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 8 days. She was united in marriage to Edward "Earl" Monteith on February 23, 1941. To this union was born one daughter Linda Marlee and one son Robert Edward. Surviving is daughter Linda (Allen) Hancox of Atkins, Iowa, son Robert (Marilyn) Monteith of Fort Dodge Iowa, five grandchildren Rick (Lisa) Hancox of Cedar Rapids, Angela (Jeff) Loney of West Des Moines, Sheri (Mike McCormick) of Marion, James (Jenny) Hancox of Marion and Jeff (Jenny) Monteith of New Hampton. Also there are seven great granddaughters Samantha, Sydney, Josephine, Noelle, Bayley, Ainsley and Emerson. Seven great grandsons Jasper, Baylor, Braedon, Noah, Easton, Jarrett and Dawson, and two great-great grandsons Devin and Logan. Three sister-in-laws Virginia Sales of Seymour, Iowa, Anna Gene Markin of Largo, Florida and Ruth Monteith of Fort Dodge, Iowa. Preceding her in death were her husband Earl, her parents Charlie and Frankie Sales, brother Wyllard Sales, and great granddaughter Kristen Noelle Monteith. Cleona graduated from Seymour High School in 1939 and worked along with her husband at a local grocery store, which they later purchased and sold after Earl was drafted into the army. Cleona then became a stay at home Mom. When her children were raised, she returned to work first at McGraw/Edison in Centerville, Iowa and later for Joe Horn Insurance in Centerville until her retirement. During her retirement years she, above all enjoyed her family, the several winters she and Earl spent in Apache Junction, Arizona and visiting and communicating with her many friends and relatives. She accepted the Lord as her personal savior and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seymour for many years. After moving to the Cedar Rapids area she joined the Blairs Ferry Baptist Church and faithfully attended until her health would no longer allow. She had a smile for everyone she met and her caring personality made her a friend to many. She leaves to mourn her passing her family and a host of friends. She will be greatly missed here on earth but Heaven has gained a beautiful angel with an engaging smile.
