Clarence LaVerne Anderson's Obituary
Clarence LaVerne Anderson, age 88 of Centerville, Iowa passed away Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.
Clarence was born August 16, 1926 to Glenn and Grace (Stober) Anderson in Davis County, Iowa. His family moved to Appanoose County when he was a young child.
Clarence enlisted in the United States Army on November 28, 1944, serving in Germany as a military policeman and firefighter.
On August 23, 1947 Clarence was united in marriage to Winnogene Horn and to this union two children were born, Linda and Pam. Clarence and Winnogene shared sixty seven years of marriage.
After farming for several years, Clarence went into the propane business with Wayne Arbogast. Later, he formed his own business, Anderson Propane. Upon retiring, Clarence and Winnogene purchased a 5th Wheel RV and spent the next twenty (plus) years wintering in Texas where Clarence enjoyed ghost shrimping, fishing and going to jam sessions. He developed many friendships in Texas.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Joanne Evans, Ethel Brooks, Alice Thompson, Helen Frantz, Gertie Baker, Juanita Staley and infant Marguarite and a brother, Jay.
He is survived by his wife, Winnogene Anderson of Centerville, Iowa; two children, Linda (Jack) Pfeifer of West Des Moines, Iowa and Pam (Bill) Milani of Centerville, Iowa; three grandchildren, Tony (Jen) Milani, Lucia (Darrel) Jones and Joe Milani; three step grandchildren, Jerry Pfeifer, Shelley (Ron) Seifried and Dana (Tom) Hartnagel; and fifteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Monday, February 2, 2015 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Reverend Steve Houser officiating. Burial with military rites will be held in the Mt. Ararat Cemetery, east of Centerville. A visitation will be held on Sunday at Lange Funeral Home from 12 PM-8PM, with the family greeting friends from 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Mt. Ararat Church and may be given to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544. Condolences may be shared online at www.langefh.com
