Clara Rice Brightman's Obituary
Clara Rice Brightman, age 101 of Centerville, Iowa passed away Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Long Term Care in Centerville.
Clara was born in Newall, Alabama on September 14, 1915, the daughter of George Luther and Morey Belle (Stovall) Rice. She graduated from Anniston High School. In 1937 she graduated from to Birmingham Southern College with a Bachelor of Science in biology and a minor in religious education. She continued her education, earning her Master's degree.
She worked as a Director of Religious Education and a social worker, as well as being the Executive Director for Planned Parenthood in Connecticut. She moved to Centerville in 1999.
Clara is survived by her sister, Virginia (Rice) Grismore of Centerville; a niece, Carol (Grismore) Hammond of West Des Moines; and four nephews, John Richard Grismore Jr. of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Charles D. Rice of Tucson, Arizona, Thomas Rice of Tucson, Arizona, and Christopher Rice of Tucson Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Morey Rice, a brother, Charles C .Rice, and nephew, Douglas Rice.
A Graveside service will be held at 10:00AM on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Hazel Dell Cemetery, near Allerton, Iowa with Pastor Kay Singley officiating. Memorials have been established to Long Term Care at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville.
