Claire Elaine Stokes' Obituary
Elaine Stokes, 87 of Allerton, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at her home in Allerton.
Claire Elaine Stokes was born on November 14, 1934. She was raised by her wonderful grandparents, Elizabeth and John Burress. Elaine grew up with her uncles being like brothers. She loved Johnny and Bud, and adored her grandparents.
Elaine was united in marriage to Dwight Stokes. The couple was blessed with one little girl, Beverly Ann. Elaine worked beside Dwight at their antique business until his passing on December 15, 1998. She went on to work caring for children. Elaine was a natural caretaker and children loved her. A couple of very special children called her "our mommy." Even though Elaine did not have grandchildren, she loved the neighbor kids, Ben and Sara, before they moved away, and then enjoyed watching the Seibel kids grow up. She talked a lot about Richard and Michaela before her passing. She loved them and all of the kids she took care of.
Elaine loved country music and especially dancing. She and her daughter, Beverly, ran the Junction Dance for over 10 years. Dancing was a highlight of her retirement years and she made many dance friends. She liked Scrapbooking and sharing those with others. She loved lots of pretty flowers! She talked about how pretty the flowers were every day. They brightened her day, and she loved to laugh which brightened the day of anyone that was around her.
Elaine loved her family unconditionally and was a friend to so many. She loved God and lived her life to praise Him and bless others.
Elaine is survived by her daughter, Beverly Stokes, her Aunt Mary Ann, nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dwight and grandparents, Elizabeth and John Burress.
Funeral service for Elaine will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. Interment will directly follow the service at Wyreka Cemetery in Putnam County, Missouri.
