Cindy Roxanne Garr's Obituary
Cindy Roxanne Garr, age 67, of Centerville, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines, following a courageous battle with lung cancer. Surrounded by the love of her family, she left this world the same way she lived her life-with the people who meant the most to her by her side.
Born on November 30, 1958, in Centerville, Cindy was the daughter of Cortland and Violet Genevieve (Thomas) Garr. She was a proud graduate of Centerville High School and spent more than three decades working in dietary services. Her work was much more than a job; it was an opportunity to care for others. Cindy had a special place in her heart for the elderly, treating those she served with kindness, compassion, and respect. The friendships she made through the years were among the many treasures of her life.
Cindy was a proud breast cancer survivor whose strength and determination inspired those around her. She faced life's challenges with resilience, grace, and an unwavering love for her family.
Outside of work, Cindy knew how to enjoy life to the fullest. Cindy had a lifelong bond with her Aunt Lila Lulu. The two were inseparable-best friends in every sense of the word. They did everything together. Cindy loved trying her luck while gambling, relaxing with a margarita, and taking trips to some of her favorite destinations. Las Vegas always called her back, and she cherished vacations spent on cruises and at the beach, where she could unwind and make memories with those she loved.
Her grandchildren were the light of her life and the center of her world. She delighted in spoiling them, celebrating their accomplishments, and making lasting memories together. Whether it was a holiday meal, a family gathering, or an ordinary afternoon spent laughing together, Cindy believed that time with loved ones was life's greatest gift. Family traditions and togetherness were always close to her heart, and she cherished every opportunity to bring everyone together.
Left to cherish Cindy's memory are her daughter, Cortney (Bobby) Barger; her grandchildren, Brayden Garrison, Kilea Garrison, Alyssa Garrison, and Peyton Barger; step grandchildren, Felicity Ellis, Grant Ellis, and Aubrynn Barger; her siblings, Kelly (Teri) Garr, Tammy (Patrick) Williamson, Terry Garr, Timmy Garr, and Stacey Buckallew; her aunt, Lila Lulu Thomas; nieces and nephews, Heather (John) Wells, Amber Barber (Sandy Tripp), Desiree Craver, Danielle (Cody) Meredith, Josh Clopton, Christian Garr, Shaeleigh Garr (Kyle Elarton), Steven Garr, Chanda Marberry, Bobby (Murphy) Hayes, Amanda (Joe) Meeker, Tasha Hanson, Jared Williams, Kyle Garr, Josh Garr, Brett Garr, Dylan (Hannah) Booth, Skyler Baugher, and Dalton Buckallew; as well as several great and great-great nieces and nephews and a host of extended family members.
Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, Cortland and Violet Garr; two stillborn sisters, Tina and Lena; and two sisters, Becky Williams and Teresa Garr.
