Chester C. Selby's Obituary
Chester Carl Selby, 90 of Marshalltown, Iowa and a former Moulton, Iowa resident, died on Monday, August 22, 2011 at Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was born the son of Milo and Alice M. (McCumber) Selby on April 7, 1921 near Moravia, Iowa. After his education, Chester entered the United States Navy on June 19, 1942 and became a cook aboard a Naval Vessel until his Honorable Discharge on June 13, 1944 from the US Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Then on July 7, 1948, Chester was united in marriage to Tilda Boggs in Omaha, Missouri. He farmed for many years south of Moulton, Iowa near Dean. In 1994, Chester became a resident of the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown, where he enjoyed all sorts of activities.He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Tilda on March 17, 1983; and two brothers, Verlin and Leland Selby.Chester is survived by: his daughter, Betty Tharp and her husband, John of Bloomfield, Iowa; two grandchildren, Jeffery and Jon Tharp; a step-granddaughter, Lisa Jones; two great grandchildren, Kalleigh and Kade Tharp; two step-great grandchildren, Lindsey and Ashley Jones; one step-great great grandson, Jason; one brother, DeWayne Selby of LaPlata, Missouri; Also several nieces, nephews and cousins.Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 11 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Moulton, Iowa with Roger Marlow officiating. Burial will full military honors by Moulton American Legion will be held at the Hardin Cemetery north of Moulton. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 from 2 pm until 8 pm at the funeral home with the family present from 6 pm until 8 pm.Memorial contributions maybe made to Iowa Veteran's Home and left at or mailed to the funeral home.
