Cheryl Jean McHenry's Obituary
Cheryl McHenry, age 65, of Cincinnati, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at MercyOne Medical Center in Centerville.
Cheryl was born on November 1, 1957 in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Jack and Juanita (Dooley) Oden. She grew up in Exline, and went to Centerville High School, graduating with the Class of 1976. Following high school graduation, she went to Cosmetology school, graduating in 1978.
In her early years, Cheryl began working as a hairdresser and drove a school bus for Centerville Schools. She worked various jobs throughout the 80's, before she began her career at Wal-Mart in Centerville in 1990. She was currently still employed, working over 32 years, and will be missed by her work family. She had a huge heart of gold, and loved helping those in need. With that being said, she was also a straight shooter and would tell you exactly how she feels. In her free time, Cheryl loved spending time with her grandchildren, especially watching them play sports.
Left to cherish Cheryl's memory are her husband, Jackie McHenry; her children, Melissa (Rick) Kauzlarich and Tasha (Nathan) Spurgeon; six grandchildren, Brett Kauzlarich, Brinley Kauzlarich, Brady Kauzlarich, Cason Spurgeon, Callon Spurgeon, and Thea Spurgeon; her brother, Paul Oden; her sister-in-law, Pam Oden; her aunts, Beverly Baldwin and Kay (Don) Hanson; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Juanita Oden; two brothers, Richard Oden and Jim Oden; as well as several family members and friends.
Private family services will be held. A public Visitation will take place Sunday, June 18, 2023 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville, beginning at 12PM with the family greeting friends from 4-6PM. Memorials may be made to Melissa Kauzlarich or Tasha Spurgeon, and the family will donate them together to the Children's Miracle Network in Cheryl's name, and they can be mailed to Thomas Funeral Home, ATTN: McHenry Family, 501 North 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
