Cheryl Denise Guthrie's Obituary
Cheryl Denise (Neely) Guthrie, 69, of Corydon passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at her home after a hard fought battle with cancer.
Cheryl was born to CW (Bill) & Gwendolyn (Grow) Neely on March 18, 1954 in Leon, Iowa. She received her education from Wayne Community High School, graduating in 1972.
In 1971, Cheryl married Richard Sloan and welcomed sons Richard Brian and Charles Dean Sloan. In 1977, Cheryl married Ronnie Guthrie and welcomed son, Bradley Scott Guthrie.
Cheryl lived in Wayne County most of her life and held several jobs while spending the last 22 years working at Corydon State Bank. She thoroughly enjoyed helping and visiting with all of her customers and co-workers!
Cheryl loved spending her free time with family and friends, especially her grandkids who were the light of her life! She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star where she held many stations including Worthy Matron three times, enjoyed bowling leagues, an active participant in the Corydon Ladies Fire Auxiliary and was a member of the Corydon United Methodist Church. Cheryl also enjoyed camping, kayaking, working in her huge garden, fishing and hosting fish fries!
Cheryl is survived by her husband of 45 years, Ronnie Guthrie of Corydon, IA; her mother, Gwen Neely of Corydon, IA; sons Brian (Angie) Sloan of Millerton, IA; Chad Sloan of Des Moines, IA; and Brad (Tish Buss) Guthrie of Corydon, IA. Sisters Janell (Randy) Pool of Wake Forest, NC and Liesl (Paul) Fitzpatrick of Urbandale, IA. Sister-in-law Peg Neely of Perdido Key, FL and Aunt Margaret (Bette) Neely Noble. Grandchildren Richard Sloan, Chelsea Sloan, Jason Duncan, Norah Guthrie, Preston, Lexy, and Parker Buss, Rylee Beachy, Karley and Natalie Mart., five nephews, three nieces and many family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father CW(Bill) Neely, brother Russell Neely and in-laws Junior and Leta Guthrie.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon with Pastor Diane Olson Schroeder officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at the Corydon Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, June 26, 2023 with family greeting friends from 5-8PM at the funeral home.
