Charlton A. 'Charlie' VanderEcken, age 68, of Centerville, Iowa, died on Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. He was born the son of James and Alice (Robinson) VanderEcken on October 18, 1935 at Melcher, Iowa. He received his education in the Melcher-Dallas Community Schools.He was united in marriage to Carol Ann Henderson on July 15, 1955 at Melcher-Dallas, Iowa. He worked at Young Radiator and Tracy Brothers Construction and Centerville Foundry until he retired. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.Charlie is preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Carol Ann VanderEcken on April 20, 1979; brother, George R. VanderEcken; Sisters, Mary A. Jones and Marie Mattling.Surviving family include: his four sons, Bill VanderEcken and his wife, Tammy of Valparaso, Florida, Richard VanderEcken, Charles and his wife, Nancy VanderEcken and Tim VanderEcken all of Centerville, Iowa; one daughter, Sandy Vaiyanet of Valparaso, Florida; 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2003 at 10:00 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Mark Waits officiating. Burial will follow in the Haines Cemetery north of Centerville, Iowa.Visitation will be held on Friday, December 19, 2003 from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, IA.
