Charles 'Charlie' Peel's Obituary
Charles "Charlie" Edward Peel, age 78 of Centerville, Iowa passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.
Charlie was born on April 2, 1938 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Ben and Mary (Clark) Peel. He was raised in Centerville and attended Centerville Schools.
Charlie was self-employed throughout his life; he owned and operated the family junk yard after his fathers death, while also owning and operating Peel Gun Shop. Moreover, Charlie owned a welding business for many years, Peels Machine Shop. Charlie was a Jack of all trades. He could build anything.
On March 21, 1957, Charlie entered the United States Navy. After his honorable discharge, and throughout his life, Charlie would volunteer to drive other military veterans to their VA appointments when needed.
On April 3, 1989, Charlie was united in marriage to Marilyn Sue Krewson in Bloomfield, Iowa. Charles and Marilyn had 27 wonderful years of marriage. During this time, he loved taking Marilyn to places that she enjoyed visiting; places that made her happy, especially Flea Markets.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Centerville; his daughter Ruth Peel; a step daughter, Kim; a grandson, Matthew; nieces, Geneva Peel of Centerville, and Johnie Lou (Peel) Peek of Centerville; as well as several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Mary Peel; a brother, John F. Peel; and nephews, Clyde Peel and Carl Peel.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2016 from 2:00PM-4:00PM at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville. Military Rites will be conducted at 2:30PM at The Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to the Appanoose County Department of Veterans Affairs, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
