Charles C. Montegna's Obituary
Charles C. Montegna, age 84 of Centerville, Iowa passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.
He was born May 27, 1929 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Carlo and Beulah (Taylor) Montegna. Charles married Marie Buban on August 26, 1953 at the Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church in Centerville.
At an early age Charles worked beside his father as a coal miner. He later worked at the Centerville Brick Yard where he helped construct the McGraw-Edison Factory and the Iowa Southern Utilities' building. Charles spent the latter half of his career reading water meters with the Centerville Water Company.
Charles enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially mowing the grass and going for walks.
He is survived by his wife Marie Montegna of Centerville, Iowa; three children, Diane (Mark) Rifenbery of Moulton, Iowa, Sally Clinkenbeard of Centerville, Iowa, and Larry Montegna of Centerville; three grandchildren, Jessica Terry, Jacob Montegna, and Michael Shively; several great grandchildren; two sisters, Patty Kennedy and Antoniette Kennedy both of Kelley, Iowa; a brother, Jim Montegna of Milan, Illinois; and an uncle, Tony Montegna of Boise, Idaho.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Josephine McLarey, Mary Mikels, Esther Hanson, and Monelle Owenson; three brothers, Danny, Frankie, and Paul Montegna; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday, August 19, 2013 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville. Burial will follow in the Haines Cemetery north of Centerville. A visitation will be held on Monday at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory from 1 PM until service time. A memorial has been established to the Charles Montegna Memorial Fund and may be given to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
