Charles W. Johnston's Obituary
Charles W. Johnston, 86, of Aurora, Colo., former resident of Cincinnati, died on Sunday, July 22, 2007, in Aurora. He was born the son of Samuel and Edna (Kerr) Johnston on November 14, 1920 near Folker, Missouri. He attended college and received his BS degree in education. Charles then served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy during World War II.He was united in marriage with Gweneth Aldeen Garriott on April 3, 1948, in Mexico, MoCharles taught and coached girls' basketball in Cincinnati, Iowa, before moving to Davenport, Iowa where he served as a physics teacher at Central High School. He formed a new program in the Dubuque school district that was called the "Traveling Counselor," who traveled in the community and worked with both students and their parents. He then became a counselor at Davenport West High School and retired from education in 1985.Charles moved to Colorado 18 months ago to be nearer to his family.He is survived by: three daughters, Janice Guidice and her husband, Charles, of Aurora, Colo., Jean Johnston of West Des Moines and Donna Morrison of London, England; three grandchildren, Sara Silva, Ian Morrison and Tyler Morrison and one great-grandchild, Sofia Silva.He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Aldeen Johnston on September 27, 2003; two brothers, John and Donald Johnston; and three sisters, Doris Pulliam, Jean Johnston and Barbara Morrell.Funeral services were held Saturday, July 28, 2007 at 2 pm at the To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Charles W.
