Charles 'Charlie' Richard Johnson's Obituary
Charles "Charlie' Richard Johnson, age 87 of Moravia, Iowa passed away Sunday, December 20, 2020 at MercyOne Medical Center in Centerville.
Charles was born on November 11, 1933 in Moravia, Iowa, the son of Merrill and Augusta Winifred (Burns) Johnson. He graduated from Moravia High School with the Class of 1951. In 1954, he furthered his education, attending college for a year in Charles City for Journalism and Linotype. On November 21, 1954, Charles was united in marriage to Georgia Earlene Peel. To this union, two children were born, Sheryl and Cindy. The couple later divorced. He later married Carol McGrann, and the couple also later divorced.
Charles owned and operated Success Barber & Beauty Supply & Perfecto Products in Moravia for most of his adult life, starting when he graduated college. In his younger years, he enjoyed traveling, fishing and hunting, as well as dancing on the weekends. Charles loved reading and listening to the radio. He also enjoyed playing with Sheryls dog, Buddy. Furthermore, Charles was a member of the Shriners, and The Lighthouse Church of the Nazarene.
Left to honor Charles memory are his children, Sheryl Fuller of Centerville, and Cindy Edwards of St. Joseph, Missouri; two step children, Julie McGrann and Diane DalPonte; four grandchildren, Chad (Kendra) Fuller, Aaron (Cindi) Fuller, Austin (Christy) Ledford, and Angela (Dustin) Owen; seven great grandchildren, Byron (Ariele) Wyant, Lexi Wyant, Serena Fuller, Eli Fuller, Lia Fuller, Asher Ledford, and Addison Ledford; and two great great grandchildren, Berklee Wyant and Braelynn Wyant.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Merrill and Winnie Johnson; two sons in law, Jerry Edwards and Stephen "Steve" Fuller; four brothers, Russell, Herbert, John and Donald Johnson; a step daughter, Eileen Thomas; and a step son, Mark McGrann.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, December 26, 2020 at The Lighthouse Church of the Nazarene in Moravia with Pastor Terry Chapman officiating. Cremation will take place following the service. Visitation will take place Saturday, December 26, 2020 at The Lighthouse Church of the Nazarene in Moravia, with the family greeting friends from 10:00AM-11:00AM. Masks are required to enter the facility for the services.
