Charles Leonard "Sarge" Crego's Obituary
Charles Leonard 'Sarge' Crego, age 85, of Centerville, Iowa, died Saturday, June 19, 2010 at his home in Centerville. He was born the son of Leonard C. and Mamie (Johnson) Crego on February 25, 1925 in Bloomington, Illinois. He received his education in Illinois.Charles served his country during WWII in the United States Navy. On March 27, 1948, Charles was united in marriage to Doris I. Reiman in Bloomington, Illinois. He moved to Centerville, Iowa in 1958 and worked for the a Telephone Company that would later become, Contel and for over 30 years as a Splicer. He retired in 1988. Sarge was a member of the EAA and had a love for flying and enjoyed going to the Air Venture in Osh Kosh, Wisconsin as well as the Antique Air Association in Blakesburg, Iowa.He is preceded in death by: his parents; and a brother, Paul Crego.Sarge is survived by: his wife, Doris I. Crego of Centerville, Iowa; daughters, Chris Craver of Humboldt, Iowa, Jo Baethke of Des Moines, Iowa, Kim Crego of Ashburn, Virginia and Darcy Furlin and her husband, John of Kellogg, Idaho; a sister, Lenore Holtzinger of Normal, Illinois; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.Sarge wanted no services and for his body to be cremated. He requested that any memorials in his name, be made to the Antique Air Association of Blakesburg, Iowa. They can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
