Charlene L. Vote Obituary's Obituary
On Tuesday May 25th 2010, Charlene Luella Cooper Vote, 67, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Charlene was born March 23, 1943, the 5th child of Arthur and Mary Cooper. She was raised with her seven siblings in the Manson, Iowa area. Charlene married Norman Vote on January 4th, 1964 at the United Methodist Church in Manson, Iowa. Charlene and Norman raised three daughters while living near Farnhamville. After farming in Calhoun County for nearly 30 years, they moved their farming operation to Melrose Iowa in 1999. Charlene graduated from Manson High School and attended the University of Iowa. She returned to college after raising her children and graduated from Iowa State University in 1989 with a degree in Education. She frequently served as a substitute teacher for all grade levels, and especially enjoyed 6th and 7th grades. She mastered gardening, created stunning quilts and raised exotic laying hens. Charlene was active in the United Methodist Church at the local and state level. She also remained active in 4-H as leader and county judge. Charlene is survived in death by her husband of 46 years, Norman Vote, and their daughters, Natalie Carter, Melanie Vote and daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Randy Castle. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Jeffery and Jacob Comegys. Charlene held a place in her heart for her sisters and brothers, and many nieces and nephews. She held a special fondness and joy in her relationship with her nephew Lorn Heyne and his wife Maryanne. Visitation will be held at the Iconium United Methodist Church on Thursday May 27th from 9:00 am until the start of funeral services at 10:30. Refreshments and fellowship will follow in the church basement. In addition, a Memorial Service will be held at the Farnhamville First United Church on Friday May 28th, at 11:00 am with refreshments to follow. Monetary condolences will be donated to Hospice of Central Iowa and the Iconium United Methodist Church which may be left at or mailed to Thomas Funeral Home -- 23548 Hwy5 -- PO Box 125 -- Centerville, Iowa 52544.
