Cecil Shriver's Obituary
Cecil Shriver, 95, of Corydon, passed away on July 21, 2020 at Corydon Specialty Care. Cecil was born in Clio, Iowa on May 4, 1925 to Emmett and Chloe (Bettis) Shriver. He was raised on the family farm, where he helped out his dad and grandfather and attended Clio High School. After graduation, Cecil served in the United States Army as a First Scout during WWII. He served in Germany, Austria, Italy and France. Upon honorable discharge, Cecil married Laura Kathleen "Kathy" Cooksey on the farm in Clio on December 30, 1945 and to this union, five children were born. Cecil was a lifelong farmer around the Clio area. He was a very hard-working man who often made sure he took time out of his day to joke around. Cecil enjoyed riding horses, spending time with his family, was an avid storyteller and had a strong faith. He was saved by Jesus in the fall of 1960 at the Clio Baptist Church where he was a member for 30 years. Later, he and Kathy became members of the First Baptist Church in Seymour where they have remained members for over 25 years. Cecil is survived by his wife, Kathy; children: Kahla (Carl) Ennis, Barton (Julie) Shriver, Shannon (Teri) Shriver and Heather (Dana) Nickell; grandchildren: Kent Lee Ennis, Karrie Tidlund, Farrah Journey, Sasha Babcock, Kendra Regan, Merribeth Shriver, Caleb Shriver, Michael Shriver, Jordan Nickell, Patrick Nickell and Melia Nickell as well as eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Kendall Shriver on July 18, 2016 and his sister, Wilma Auxier. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon with burial immediately following at Clio Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2020 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon.
